Newtownstewart Model Primary School has launched its new Breakfast Club, giving children a healthy and positive start to the school day while providing additional support for local families. Based in the school's comfortable Coffee Bar area, the club offers pupils a healthy and nutritious breakfast, with gluten-free options available to cater for a range of dietary needs. As well as enjoying breakfast together, children can spend time with friends, take part in play activities or get a head start on their learning. Opportunities include reading through Accelerated Reader and accessing Mathletics, helping pupils to settle into the day in a relaxed and purposeful way. The provision is led by Lizzy Scott, who has been delighted by the response from pupils.“ It has been fantastic to see the children enjoying their mornings together. They arrive settled and happy, enjoy breakfast with their friends and have time to take part in different activities before the school day begins .”Acting principal, Paul McKernan welcomed the new initiative: “We want every child to have the best possible start to their school day. The Breakfast Club provides a healthy breakfast, supports our families and gives children opportunities to socialise, play and learn together. We are delighted to see it becoming such a positive addition to school life.” The pupils themselves have also given the new provision their seal of approval. “I love Breakfast Club because I get to have breakfast with my friends and do some reading or Mathletics before school. It gets me ready for the day,” said one pupil. The new Breakfast Club is another example of Newtownstewart Model Primary School's commitment to supporting the wellbeing, learning and development of every child, while providing practical support for families within the local community.
