As part of the Mountjoy Road/Gortin Road widening scheme a continuous one-way road closure will be in place on the Mountjoy Road between Old Mountfield Road and Killybrack Road.

The scheme will commence from Friday, November 6 at 7pm until Sunday, November 8 at 6pm. Traffic will be able to travel into town but will need to follow the diversion route out of town.

This one-way closure will be repeated for resurfacing on Saturday, November 21 from 6am until 2.30pm and Sunday, November 22 from 6am until 2.30pm. It is anticipated that the road will be reopened in both directions prior to the Christmas light switch on event in Omagh town on Saturday, November 21.

During this closure a signed diversion for the one-way closure will be in place as follows: B0048 Sedan Avenue, B0048 McConnell Place, B0048 Abbey Street, B0048 Derry Road, B0048 Strathroy Road Link Road, U1528 Strathroy Road.

Additionally, since Monday, November 2, a three-way traffic lights system is now in operation on the Killybrack Road, Mountjoy Road and Gortin Road Junction for civil works for three weeks continually. Delays are expected and alternative routes, which will be indicated by traffic signs, should be followed where possible.

The department has carefully planned these road works and associated traffic management arrangements in order to minimise inconvenience to the public. The arrangements are also in place to keep both the travelling public and those undertaking the work safe. Road users are advised to allow extra time for their journey and to follow the alternative routes which will be clearly signed on the approaches to the closure. Access for property owners and deliveries will be accommodated.

Completion of the work is subject to favourable weather conditions, however, the department will keep the public informed of any change. All work will be carried out in line with current public health and health and safety advice, with safe systems of working in place for staff and contractors.
