A REVIEW is underway following traffic congestion at the Twilight Harvest Market at Gortin Glen Forest Park, which left some visitors unable to access the popular event.
Fermanagh and Omagh District Council has acknowledged the frustration caused by the congestion at the market on Saturday, October 17, after a significant turnout of visitors placed pressure on traffic management, parking and access arrangements.
The council said the event had attracted a large number of visitors and was well received, but recognised the difficulties experienced by those caught up in the congestion, particularly people who were unable to reach the market.
In response to the concerns raised, the council confirmed it is engaging with the event organiser, the PSNI and relevant partner agencies as it reviews what happened.
The review will examine traffic management, accessibility and parking arrangements, with the aim of addressing the issues highlighted by the event.
A PSNI spokesperson confirmed that officers had been required to attend the scene to manage traffic and safeguard the public.
“A larger than expected turnout to the Twilight Market event at the weekend meant that it was necessary for police to attend to manage traffic and ensure public safety,” the spokesperson said.
The council has yet to outline any specific changes it may introduce following the review.
