McHugh welcomes allocation of Club Maintenance Grants to local sports clubs

Castlederg-based Councillor Ruairí McHugh has welcomed additional investment of almost £34K by Derry City & Strabane District Council in local sporting clubs through the Club Maintenance Grant Aid Programme for 2026-27.

Speaking following the rubber stamping of the funding at council’s Health and Communities Committee meeting, Cllr McHugh said he was delighted that clubs from the districvt would benefit.

“As a member of council’s Sporting Committee, I am delighted that a total of 31 sporting clubs in the district are to benefit from this funding ratified at today’s Health and Communities Committee meeting of the council with almost half Strabane based.

“These grants provide a vital life-line for many of our local sporting clubs in terms of being able maintain the standard of their sporting facilities.

“Most of our sporting clubs primarily rely on the voluntary effort and commitment of members to function and survive so it is important that Council continue to support this voluntary effort as much as possible and help build our sporting capacity within Strabane and wider district.”
