Asda Omagh colleagues raise more than £1,600 for cancer charity

Asda Omagh has raised more than £1,600 for Care for Cancer
COLLEAGUES at Asda Omagh have raised more than £1,600 for Care for Cancer, a local charity that supports people in the community living with and affected by cancer.
Front-end colleague Brenda Caldwell and Community Champion, Clodagh Devlin took on a half marathon walk to raise funds for the organisation, with the total boosted through Asda’s Colleague Fund Matching programme, an initiative which provides additional support to grassroots charities and community groups.
Care for Cancer supports people living within a 26-mile radius of Omagh who have been diagnosed with cancer, as well as their families. The charity provides a range of essential services, including counselling, reflexology, bra fitting services and assistance with transport to hospital appointments.
The fundraising challenge saw Brenda and Clodagh raise an incredible £1,144 in just one week, helping Care for Cancer continue to provide these much-needed services, with the Asda Foundation bringing the total to £1,644 thanks to a donation of £500.
Clodagh Devlin, Community Champion at Asda Omagh said: “Brenda and I chose to support Care for Cancer because it is such an important charity within our community. Sadly, we have known friends, family members and work colleagues who have been supported by the charity throughout their cancer journey, as well as their families and people closest to them.
“To raise £1,144 in just one week was amazing. A massive thank you to everyone who helped us achieve this with generous donations. We really are so grateful. It highlights just how valuable Care for Cancer is within our area.”
In the months before the challenge, the colleagues trained with regular walks.
Clodagh said: “We spent a couple of months getting out as much as possible to prepare. At times, we worried about our fitness levels and whether we would be able to complete the distance, but the atmosphere on the day was fantastic. We thoroughly enjoyed the experience and finished in times we never expected, which made us both incredibly proud.”
Louise Teague from Care for Cancer added: “We are immensely grateful to Clodagh and Brenda for choosing to support Care for Cancer, and for the time, effort and commitment they put into completing the challenge.
“The donation raised by Clodagh and Brenda, alongside Asda’s support, will make a real difference and help us continue providing these invaluable services to local people affected by cancer.”
Asda’s Colleague Fund Matching programme is available to colleagues who take part in fundraising activities in their own time and aims to support local charities and good causes that improve wellbeing in communities.
