More than £1,600 in prize money up for grabs as popular 10k and 5k race prepares to welcome hundreds of runners

ONE of Tyrone’s most popular festive sporting events is set to return next month, with the Rudolph Run 10k and 5k Road Race promising another exciting day of competition, community spirit and Christmas cheer.

The 16th annual event will take place on Saturday, December 5, at 12 noon, starting at Eskra Community Centre, with runners, walkers and spectators expected to turn out in force for the much-loved race.

Organised by Knockmany Running Club and Eskra Community Association, the Rudolph Run has become a firm fixture on the road racing calendar, attracting more than 500 participants from across the country at its previous staging.

With more than £1,600 in prize money available, including bonus prizes for new 10k course records, this year’s event promises plenty of competitive action for athletes of all abilities. Last year, West Waterford AC’s Pat Hennessy claimed the men’s 10k title in an impressive time of 33 minutes and 56 seconds, while Kirsty Downey of Inishowen AC took the women’s race in 40:16.

Both records and personal bests will be firmly in the sights of competitors this December, with the existing men's 10k course record standing at 31:05.

The women's record is held by Ann-Marie McGlynn, who produced a stunning performance in 2019 to complete the course in 34:15.

There is also plenty to aim for in the 5k event, with a £50 prize on offer for any male or female athlete who sets a new course record.

The men's 5k record is 14:47, held by Ciaran Kelly of Raheny Shamrocks, while Letterkenny AC athlete Nakita Burke set the women's benchmark of 16:46 last year.

The 10k race will also feature a team competition, with £350 in prize money available for male and female club teams.

Pacers will be on hand to help participants achieve their target times, adding to the appeal for runners hoping to finish the year on a high.

A race spokesperson said the organisers were looking forward to welcoming participants back to Eskra for another memorable occasion.

“The 10k event also has the added feature of the team event, with a total of £350 in prizes for male and female club teams. There are also pacers in the 10k event,” the spokesperson said.

The organisers are encouraging runners to register online as soon as possible to secure one of the event's special festive souvenirs.

The popular Rudolph Run beanie hat will be available exclusively to the first 500 online entries, making early registration particularly worthwhile. And, as ever, the famous Eskra hospitality will be a major part of the day, with plenty of food and hot refreshments served in the community centre afterwards.

Whether chasing a course record, competing for club honours, targeting a personal best or simply enjoying a festive run with friends, the Rudolph Run offers something for everyone. Online entry is now open at https://in.njuko.com/rudolph-run-5k-10k-2026. Further information is available through the Rudolph Run and Knockmany Running Club Facebook pages and the Athletics NI website.

Runners, walkers and spectators are all welcome to join the celebrations in Eskra on December 5 for another exciting chapter in this much-loved Tyrone sporting tradition.
